The Tabernacle of Glory, presently worships at American Baptist College (ABC), a Historic Black College whose mission is “to educate, graduate and prepare diverse students with a liberal arts emphasis for Christian leadership, service and social justice in the world.” The college’s mission lines up with The Tabernacle of Glory's mission. At ABC, we use the mixed space of the Susie McClure library and chapel. ABC student’s benefit from the congregation’s presence because they have access to and examples on how to be leaders in the 21st century. We have also become an example to other small congregations of ways to be missional and adaptive in hard times.
OUR KALEIDOSCOPIC COMMUNITY
|
If you were to look at our logo, the Kaleidoscope and mosaic colors represent us as a congregation. With our unified diversity, we aspire to reflect the multifaceted nature of divine love. The kaleidoscope and mosaic idea of a church embraces humanity's beauty and diversity, recognizing that every individual is a unique reflection of God's creation. We celebrate the unity found in individuality and in differences. We recognize the body of Christ within our community is comprised of diverse members, each bringing their unique gifts, talents, and perspectives.
The ideals of being a kaleidoscopic community and moving from going to church to be the church are an offering to critical thinking about ecclesiology for the 21st Century church. God is leading us to model church in ways that are not mega in size. Being missional within our congregation is to use individual and collective, tangible and intangible resources to make the world a better place as Christians.
Through these principles we seek to create a community that reflects the love and acceptance of Christ, where all people can flourish, where harm and suffering is minimized, and a deep sense of belonging can be embraced.
